Inspired by Japanese animation, Parisian artist & director Sandór Waïss releases new music video for ‘Memories’

Parisian artist, producer and director Sandór Waïss returns with Memories. The latest and final single taken from his anticipated debut album project, Broken Blue, which is forthcoming this March via Columbia Records France, Memories arrives today with an anime-inspired music video written and directed by Sandór Waïss and Juan Pablo Machado.

The next glimpse of his conceptual project linking music, image, symbolism, and philosophy, Memories explores humanity’s connection between our past, our present and our future. Brought to life by Sandór Waïss and director Juan Pablo Machado, the music video for Memories has been influenced by the work of Hayao Miyazakiand Isao Takahata, and more broadly, by Japanese animation in general.

Musically, Memories continues to showcase Sandór Waïss’ remarkable studio prowess and ability to glide between a variety of pop and electronic influences, to conjure highly emotive productions to soundtrack his ever-growing catalogue of cinematic content taken from the album.

First announced in April with the opening single and music video for The Eyes, and then quickly followed up by Kill You, Broken Blue is Sandór Waïss’ debut album. Visually, he seeks to break away from the contemporary iconography of idols and commercial codes. Preferring a cinematographic approach, Broken Blue is a musical and cinematographic journey, with a musical intensity that switches between the tragic and the sublime.

Launching the project in 2022 with a video trilogy as an attempt to shine a light on the human condition (watch here), the album is entirely self-produced and was written and recorded in the comfort of his home studio, and then mixed at Motorbass, the legendary Parisian studios set up by Philippe Zdar where the French Touch movement was born.
