Jiaqi Wang’s vivid creations have an infectious ability to bring a smile to people's faces.

Jiaqi Wang’s latest project, “We Dress A Certain Way” captures the eclectic vibrancy of New York City’s eight million people; a city she moved to from her birthplace of Suzhou (just outside of Shanghai) after first finishing her studies in art and animation in London at the London College of Communication.

She has since gone on to win numerous awards and deliver impressive projects for the likes of Apple, the BBC, Spotify and Muji and become known for creating character based fun; characterised by bold, popping flat colours and crisp linework.

After taking an interest in street style through the sheer amount of time spent inadvertently people watching; the artist was keen to portray the self expression of those going about their regular lives. The daily practice of admiring people’s clothes led to her animating around ten characters and teaming up with game designer Chenyuan and producer Hongyi from Slow Movement to create a desktop game.

With every character a piece of art, “We Dress A Certain Way” isn’t just an artistic lens on a city, but an interactive and playful way to look at a population.
