Back Home is the latest entry in Osquello’s ever-growing and impressive discography

Osquello, the Leeds-via-London artist, songwriter, and producer returns with his latest single of 2021. Collaborating with the fast rising, Colombian/Italian RnB artist Desta French, Back Home is now available to stream and purchase via DMY.

Back Home is the latest entry in Osquello’s ever-growing and impressive discography. With each of his tracks holding social, cultural, and political themes, Back Home sees the now North London based artist explore the concept of home. A collaboration with the like-minded and also London-based Desta French who is championing Latin music in the UK, Back Home is the perfect pairing between two of the city’s most intriguing musical names.

“The song is about connecting to your roots and wondering if that all along, when racist nationalists England would tell you to go “back where you came from” or “back home”, is it actually for the best? Maybe wherever our roots resign, and our people are where our home is. The meaning of home is often vaguely described, and this song was an exploration as to what home really means. At the same time, I think it translates heavy to anyone on the way home after a long night out trying to realise who they truly are.”Osquello

Still only 21 years old, with collaborations with the likes of Clairo, Declan McKenna, Brockhampton and Goldie under his belt, Osquello has carved out his status amongst his musical peers as an artist who is charting their own course.

Making waves with his debut EP Good Morning Simulation in early 2019 which received praise from press outlets such as Fader, Highsnobiety, CLASH, NME and BBC, he followed up with the self-released album Osqstock and the Something Behind Me EP with Goldie in 2020. Osquello rounded off his 2020 by selling out institutional London venue Jazz Café in November, just 3 days before another national lockdown.

More recently Osquello delivered his first EP of 2021 We Up, a deep personal exploration of his identity.

“The song to me is about getting out of the city… the rat race, the confusion, the distractions, all the things get in the way of you connecting with who you truly are and what’s really important” – Desta French

Moving from London to an attic room in Leeds at age 16, faced with a lack of social life and no internet due to money being tight, Osquello found solace in his dad’s record collection and musical equipment where he began to dive into music-making and songwriting. A naturally talented rapper, singer and producer, there’s much more to come from Osquello.
