Adidas Lagos, the first West African flagship store for the brand in Nigeria’s largest city has just opened in a retrofitted existing 1970s building, completely transformed by Nigerian architect Tosin Oshinowo of Oshinowo Studio.

The new store, strategically positions the store as a beacon of cultural significance, epitomizing the city’s vibrant creative spirit, street culture and longstanding dynamic reputation as a thriving hub for artistic expression.

The building which sits in Lagos’ Victoria Island area (624, Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos) has been designed with a series of dramatic solid and perforated corrugated aluminium sheets (typically used for roofing), to create a striking façade illuminated smartly with LED linear lighting.

Combining a love of Lagos and of Nigerian contemporary culture, with a global perspective and approach; Nigerian artists Chinelo Ezewudo, Osa Okunkpolor, Dennis Osadebe (also a participant in the recent Art X Lagos 2023), and Ayoola Gbolahan have created site-specific work for the store’s interiors.

The store merges art and merchandise seamlessly with apparel and footwear for women and children on the ground floor while the men’s department is on the top floor. The store boasts of premium adidas collections such as Stella McCartney, Parley, Marimekko, and Thebe Magugu among others. Shoppers can also find the adidas hijabi/modest line, sports footwear and apparel for football, swimming, basketball, running, training, and golf as well as the staple and classic Stan Smith and Forum.

The functional design also sees an on-site solar power system, a sewage treatment plant with capacity for the reuse of waste water as irrigation, and an advanced air-conditioning system also help regulate the climate and the energy consumption within the building.
