Video Matters launched in June, is Vimeo’s interactive magazine showcasing the most inspiring videos on the internet. Each month, the video magazine serves up some of the best new Staff Picks, magnificent marketing work from all sorts of businesses, and a themed archive collection.
Edited by Aubrey Page and Meghan Oretsky, Video Matters Issue Two is curated just like a regular magazine and for July’s edition Vimeo are bringing the very silly alongside the very serious.
From an hilarious music video to a genuinely funny Dropbox case study video, the issue has the lighter side of video covered. The magazine is also sharing five powerful films – from animation and drama to documentary – which reflect on every woman’s right to choose; in light of the US Supreme Court decision.
Video Matters looks, at first, like a singular video with timestamps. However, upon playing the video, users can choose between the magazine’s three sections, with the option to learn more about each video within them. This approach to UX – i.e. a choose-your-own-adventure format – took some testing from Vimeo. The first prototype of Video Matters functioned more like a microsite “bundled into a video frame”, says Rob. Jen Mendler and Charlie Potter, both part of Vimeo’s interactive team and builders of the magazine, adapted the idea into its current form to bring serendipity into the experience.

You can look through past issues of the magazine over on the Video Matters page. Video Matters is made with Vimeo’s new interactive tools.
