"We’re in our heads more than we realize, so I wanted to paint a story where you’re the main character facing your fears, learning to tame your inner demons and winning back pieces of yourself along the way." – Emma McGann

Emma McGann – The British songwriter, independent trailblazer and award nominated alt-pop artist today shares the new single Monsters, taken from her forthcoming EP, The Monsterverse.

Written and recorded as an immersive world of songs where the listener is cast as the main character dealing with their inner demons. A difficult process for many, The Monsterverse is a creative avenue for Emma’s listeners to get lost in and has been a powerful and cathartic storytelling tool to experiment with.

Sharing the first single today from the EP, Monsters is playful and full of attitude, at times angry and gothicThe track was written through the lens of insomnia after an intense series of night terrors which Emma experienced. Bottling up emotions until it’s too much to hold onto alone, Monsters was inspired by the headspace she found herself in after losing loved ones and not understanding how to deal with the fallout that comes years down the line.

As one of the UK’s most innovative new creative talents, whose contagious pop-dusted melodies infused with brave and beautiful storytelling have garnered support from the likes of Kylie MinogueNancy Sinatra and Beth HartMonsters was brought to life in Emma’s ‘neon jungle’ studio, her writing haven that also visually inspired a later chapter of The Monsterverse EP. Alongside her long-time producer MIRLYN, the pair conjured up angsty guitar riffs, explosive drums and bittersweet vocal production late into the night.

To create the immersive world and to bring Monsters to life, Emma stepped into the shoes of her own monster creations using a motion capture suit and virtual production technology. Made entirely in 3D computer graphics game creation tool Unreal EngineMonsters creates a first-person gamer style experience that emerges Emma’s fans in a virtual world.

From crafting anthemic guitar-led tracks that celebrate human imperfections to more delicate, melancholy songs that seep deep, McGann’s writing conveys a vibrant pop sensibility and charisma that is a refreshing flash of colour in a world of same old, same old.

Being one of the first artists in the world to pioneer the use of livestreaming as an artist and musician almost a decade ago, her music livestreams have racked up over 11 million views to date and seen her present her unique story via her TEDx Talk ‘Livestreaming my Life’.

Along with an ever-growing catalogue of solo material, Emma McGann also has a number of impressive collaborations under her belt with Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park, Fort Minor) on her track Teary Eyed and with DnB artist Protostar on multiple tracks for Monstercat Records.

Taken from Emma McGann’s forthcoming EP The Monsterverse which is set for release on September 9th
